M.E.M.O.RI. is an intercultural artistic project derived from Euro-Mediterranean research, aimed at opening a museum starting from everyday objects.

M.E.M.O.RI., also known as the Euro Mediterranean Museum of the RE-fused Object, is an itinerant museum which exhibits fragments, traces and small objects collected during a journey by members of the Salone dei Rifiutati cooperative in 5 Mediterranean cities (Genoa, Marseille, Malaga, Tunis and Tetouan) and in 5 Lucanian ones (Bernalda, Venosa, Matera, Muro Lucano and Potenza).

The research was carried out using a creative cross-section, aimed at getting to know places in the 10 communities involved and discovering or rediscovering the urban space in search of artistic or domestic objects, souvenirs, discarded local craftwork, objects brought in by the sea or found in the street.

The ability to conjure up cultures of belonging, typical of souvenirs, combines with the universality of accidental and everyday finds, travel memories, common objects, airline tickets and bits found in pockets or in the street; the objective is to trace, while respecting the original meaning of the word souvenir, the memory and the way it engages with reality by preserving and enhancing the past.

In tracing the stories that the objects encapsulate, M.E.M.O.RI. is a journey that attempts to stimulate reflection on human relationships by posing questions on the meaning of the cultures where these items originated and were exchanged, handled and experienced. It is a veritable museum of circumstances, where every seemingly simple object conceals a hand-to-hand journey: hands which touch, brush, take, leave, give and try to make sense of bits of the world.
